Metropolitan Rome, it’s not simply a map: Rome is stratification, gentrification, migration, hospitality, integration, mutuality, imagination, reactivation. These adjectives all somehow make up the colourful face of Rome. Valeriana Berchicci’s project arose from a desire to provide a portrait of its urban fabric, made up of countless voices bringing it to life, found in the various neighbourhoods the artist explored. We wanted to experience a part of the periphery, from the Greek perí (around) fereia (bring), the part that surrounds, that revolves around the historical centre, because it is only by combining the centre and periphery that a prism of the contemporary city can be built.
